Why Oils on our feet?

You'll hear many of us talking about applying oils to our feet each night or even every 10-30 minutes if working hard to support our immune systems. Why is that?

Here are 3 reasons why you should be applying essential oils to your feet.

1) Less Sensitive The skin on the soles of the feet is less sensitive than the rest of the body, which makes it a great place to try out essential oils. Using diluted essential oils on the bottom of the feet allows them to be absorbed into the body with less chance of a reaction. This is also the perfect location for using “hot” essential oils. Hot essential oils are oils that are known to cause sensitivity in some people. These include citrus essential oils, oregano, and peppermint.

2) Reflexology It is suggested that every nerve line in the body ends in your feet. Reflexologists believe that areas on the feet correspond to the body’s organs and systems. The left foot corresponds to the left side of the body and all of the organs and valves while the right foot corresponds to the right side of the body. For example, since the liver is on the right side of the body, its reflex point is found on the right foot.

By including essential oils into the art of reflexology for the feet, you may increase the benefits. It may also allow you to target certain areas of the body just by applying them to the feet.

3) Quicker Absorption and Delivery The pores on the feet are thicker than pores elsewhere on the body. This allows the essential oils to be absorbed more quickly and reach the bloodstream faster. Also, the feet and hands do not have sebaceous glands. Sebum is an oily substance that covers the body and helps waterproof and lubricate the skin. Because the feet and hands are free of it, better absorption is achieved.
